Why Election Day on November 3 Matters to Our Country
Election Day, November 3, is an important opportunity for Americans to participate in the democratic process. Voting allows citizens to help choose the leaders and representatives who will make decisions affecting our communities, states, and country.
Why Election Day Matters
Election Day gives eligible voters a voice in public affairs. It is a time to learn about the candidates and issues, take part in civic life, and respect the rights and responsibilities that come with citizenship. Every lawful vote is part of the process through which the people express their will.
What the Constitution Says
The Constitution establishes the framework for federal elections. Article I, Section 4 gives states responsibility for determining the times, places, and manner of elections for senators and representatives, while Congress may alter those rules. Article II describes the process for choosing the President. The Constitution also protects voting rights through later amendments, including the Fifteenth, Nineteenth, Twenty-Fourth, and Twenty-Sixth Amendments.
As November 3 approaches, citizens can prepare by learning the issues, checking registration and voting information, and making a plan to vote. Civic participation strengthens representative government and helps preserve the constitutional system that guides our nation.
Our Responsibility as Citizens
Voting is both a right and a responsibility. As citizens, we are entrusted with choosing leaders who reflect our convictions and commitment to the principles that guide our Republic. As Republican women, we can thoughtfully consider candidates and policies that support constitutional government, individual liberty, personal responsibility, strong families, secure communities, and limited government.
Our choices should be informed by the Constitution, our values, and the needs of our communities. By voting, encouraging others to participate, and engaging respectfully in civic life, we help protect representative government and fulfill our responsibility as citizens.
